A Proverb A Day Keeps The Devil Away!

Proverb – wise saying
The key word in Proverbs is wisdom. This book in the Bible teaches us the ability to live life with knowledge, wisdom, discernment, good judgement and many other good qualities. We should live a Godly life in a ungodly world. The Book of Proverbs is a guideline or instruction manual teaching us how to live Christ like. It doesn’t matter what situation we are in, the book of Proverbs can give us the wisdom and the knowledge to help us make it through what ever we are faced with.

The first chapter in the book of Proverbs explains what this book is about. It is one of the few books in the Bible that does this. (Proverbs 1;2-7) “To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgement, and equity; To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

When I first went to beauty school I was not good at fixing peoples hair. I didn’t know how to do perms, color or haircuts. I had to learn, practice, and study to acquire the wisdom and knowledge to be able to become a Hairdresser. The same is true in becoming a Christian or disciple of Jesus Christ. We have to study God’s Word, learn it, and live it, in order to become what God has called us to be. It takes discipline to have the wisdom and knowledge God wants us to have!

The Book of Proverbs has 31 chapters. It may not be a coincidence that there is 31 chapters and most months have 31days. So if we read a chapter a day in Proverbs it would be much to our advantage. The Book of Proverbs is filled with details on how to be a wise person! There is 54 verses in Proverbs that speak about wisdom and 28 in the Book of Ecclesiastes. Solomon wrote both of these books. Solomon could have asked the Lord for anything he wanted but instead he asked the Lord for wisdom to judge the people. Since he asked the Lord for wisdom instead of riches the Lord blessed him with both.

Just as the saying says; An apple a day keeps the Dr away, also a Proverb a day keeps the devil away. If we don’t want to be bombarded by the devil’s tactics we must be like; (Matthew 10;16) “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” ( harmless here means innocent)
