Jesus said; When you fast!
Fasting – in the Greek meaning means not eating, abstinent from food (religiously), or on a regular basis. Abstinence from the lack of food.
Fasting- in the Hebrew meaning means a fast, hunger, fasting.
We live is a society that most people think that fasting was for way back then. But the truth of the matter is that we need it right now. Jesus gave us several examples. I am not only speaking to everyone that reads this but I am speaking to myself. We live in a world where almost every activity is centered around food. Even a big part of the church world is obese. The Bible plainly states that gluttony is a sin. It even says in (Proverbs 23;2) “And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.” I don’t know about you but I have been blessed with more than enough to eat or drink. When I think about this, it is like paying your tithes he only ask for 10 percent which is hardly nothing compared to what we get. So fasting is the same way, if we can’t give up a few days of food and drink a month, where is our heart at. We must learn to deny our selves.
Praying, reading our Bible, and denying ourselves from the 17 works of the flesh are an important part of our Christian walk. Fasting should be just as important. When Jesus was doing his Sermon on the Mount in (Matthew 6;17,18) Jesus said: “
But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.” Jesus is saying two things here, plain and simple, when you fast, not if you fast, also he is telling us to fast in secret to him.
In Esther 4;16 Esther called for all the Jews that were in Shushan, to fast with her and her maidens for three days. You know this was done in secret, they would not have wanted Haman to know what they were up to. They were trusting God and no one else.
In (Matthew 4;1-11) you read how Jesus fasted forty days and nights and after this he was tempted by Satan three times. Jesus had victory over Satan all three times. If Jesus had to fast and him being the Son of God, our need to fast would be greater.
In (Matthew 17;14-21) the disciples were not able to cure the man’s son that was a lunatick. Jesus said; Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
Do you really want to fulfill the plan the Lord has for you?
2. Are you ready to say with the good Lord’s help I want to be able to fast and do all he wants me to do.
If you really want to fast and do all the Lord wants you to, talk to him and he will help you in every area. Do you hear his voice?
