Memorization and Meditation
Memorization and meditation on Gods Holy Word will help you to to live in the joy of the Lord. You will also be able to manifest the nine fruits of the spirit if we learn and meditate on his word. When I was just a young child in school a minister named Mr Winkler would come by the school every year. He would speak of God’s word and give out little scripture books. If you learned scripture you would get a New Testament. One year we learned John 3;16 and the next year we learned the 23 Psalm. I hope I am telling the story exactly right because I was just a child then and this is how I seem to remember it. I wonder what percentage of kids even know these verses now. I was not a Christian then but I’m sure these verses got me through the rocky road of my childhood.
I want to give you some scripture to prove to you why we must memorize his scripture and meditate on Gods word!
1. (John 1;1) “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1;14) “And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, ( and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
This shows us that you can’t separate the the Word of God from God or the Word of God or God from Jesus. We do not have Jesus walking around in the earth in the natural anymore. Now we have his Holy Spirit in the earth. Since we don’t have him here in the natural anymore we have to have his Word in us.
2. (Acts 17;28) “For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
If it is in him that we live, move, and have our being: how can we even function if we don’t have his word in us? We must meditate on the word of God!
3. (2 Corinthians 3;2) “Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
The world is always watching Christians. We must be prepared to give out the word of God to his people. If the Word of God is not in us we can not give it out! With some people we are the only word of God they get or see. Always remember, you are always being watched!
4. (Isaiah 26;3) “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
If we are going through anxiety of any kind, keeping our minds on him and his word is the only way to have peace. I have seen many people make it through trying times reading and quoting Gods Holy scriptures. Read his scriptures often!
5. (Isaiah 59;21) “As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the Lord; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the Lord, from henceforth and forever.
It is so important that we speak Gods word continually around our family and friends. Our children will become what they eat. Fill them up with God’s word. It is rare that our children would hear anything about the word of God at school. It is up to us to pour the word of God into them. Let’s encourage them to memorize and meditate on God’s word!
6. (Hebrews 4;12) “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
When we have his spirit and are filled up with the word of God, we also can discern the hearts of the people. This is very important in the days that we are living in now. Many people fall into wrong relationships because they have no discernment at all!
7. (2 Timothy 3;13-17) “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
In order to become what the Lord wants us to be, we need to learn his scriptures. His scriptures will make us complete in him. We strive to be perfect through his scriptures. Many people will not fulfill their purpose in God because it requires work! Even Paul said! (Romans 7;18) “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.” If Paul had trouble denying his flesh I’m sure it requires a lot of work. It is only through his word that we can fulfill his purpose. This is done by letting his word form us into the image of God! Let him have his way in You!
